Day 1: Hanoi - Halong - Lan Ha Bay
Morning:

Get picked up from your hotel (in or near Hanoi Old Quarter and not included in cabin price). Pick up time is between 8:30 - 9:00 am. Follow the newest highway connecting Hanoi and Ha Long. The road trip takes around 2.5 hours.

Upon arrival at Tuan Chau Marina, passengers will be welcomed by hospitable staff at Orchid Cruise’s lounge. After enjoying a special cup of tea, around 12.15pm, Orchid tender will transfer tourists to the main boat Orchid Cruise.

Afternoon::

After check-in onboard, you will receive cruise briefing and safety instructions. Lunch will be served in the luxury restaurant on board - as you savor the exquisite Vietnamese and international cuisines, the cruise will slowly head pass beautiful islets in Halong Bay such as Da Chong, Con Vit, and Gia Luan.

Stop at Dark-Bright Cave to kayak and admire the serene beauty of the bay. If weather permits, another option is to visit Ba Trai Dao Beach - one of the most beautiful beaches in Lan Ha Bay. You can unwind on the sandy beach, kayak, and swim in the crystal-clear water.

You will cycle along the village (or use an electric car) to explore the daily life of its fishermen. At 12:00am, lunch will be served.

Afternoon:

In the afternoon, Orchid Cruise will bring tourists to Ba Men Temple - an untouched area for kayaking or relaxing on the beach. At 4:00pm, passengers will return to the main boat for resting and enjoying the seascape.

Evening:

Dinner will be served around 7:15pm. After that, tourists can enjoy their free time onboard: admiring Halong Bay beauty on the sundeck, sipping a drink and making new friends at the cruise’s luxury bar, watching a movie, or trying squid fishing with staff.

  • The FOC rate for children under 4 years old is applicable for 1 (one) child sharing a cabin with 2 (two) adults. Only 1 (one) child under 4 years old traveling with two (2) adults is allowed for FOC per cabin.
  • Children from 4-11 will pay extra charge 75% of adult rate.
  • Children 12 and above must pay full fare as adult.
  • Peak season surcharge : Surcharge $45/person for Gala dinner applies if guests stay on board on December 24th and/or December 31st 2024 and Lunar New Year 2025 (28, 29, 30, 31/1/2025)
  • Shuttle bus: $40/ adult and $30/ child round trip. Pick up point: at hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter or in front of Hanoi Opera House
  • On the second day you will travel on day boat and do not have access to mother boat and your cabin until later in the afternoon.

Dear Sharron Wagstaffe, Our shuttle bus only drops off in Hanoi Old Quarter but we can arrange a connecting car to pick you up on the way back (near the city center) then go directly to Hanoi airport. Hi! My couple and I are planning a cruise. We would take a bus from Ninh Binh which are supposed to leave us on Ha Long bay around 10.30h. Would we make it on time to the check in? Where does the bus leave us and where are we supposed to be for check in? I would like to ask too about the cancellation policy in case of bad weather. Dear François Caron, All the cruises will start at around 11:30 - 12:00 so if you still want to join the trip, you can hire a speedboat to catch the big boat. The cost is around US$ 70 - 150 depending on the actual time you arrive at the cruise pier. It is a short distance from the cruise ship port to Tuan Chau Pier, where the cruise starts so you can simply take a taxi. Dear April, The transfer from Hanoi is not included in the price. February is early spring in Vietnam, it is getting warmer so it's good for swimming and doing water activities. In the daylight, it is very comfortable with light sunshine and wind. In general, it's good for sailing. For your questions: (1) The bus cannot pick you up right at the train station but you can walk to Mercure La Gare hotel (about 100m from the station) to have breakfast there and wait for the bus. As far as I know the hotel serves breakfast for $10/person and you can have a rest at the lounge too until the bus picks you up. (2) The bus will pick you up at Mercure hotel at about 8.00am and if the train is late, we can wait until 8.30am but as per our experience, the train from Sapa will not too late until 8.00am (unless there is disaster such as flood or landslide in Sapa and stop all the trains). As per the update, Orchid Classic Cruise is fully booked on 22 Nov already so can you please consider Orchid Trendy Cruise as an alternative? For drop-off, you will reach Hanoi between 2:30pm-3:00pm. Our bus can only drop off in Hanoi Old Quarter. If you wish to book a flight after the cruise trip please book one after 5:30pm to avoid rushing between places. OR you can fly from Hai Phong which is closer to Halong Bay. Cost for shuttle bus round trip is 40 USD/person. It is normally cool but not cold at this time of the year. The cost for wine is between 4-7$ depending on what you take. I have received your request for a quotation, and wonder which type of cruise you are interested in (budget, mid-range or luxury)? Remark about Transfer to/from pier: 1. If you book your transfer with us the details will be as follows: Pick up from Hanoi Old Quarter: 8:15-8:45am. If you stay outside of the Old Quarter we can make some exception such as for Sheraton or Intercontinental Hanoi with pick up time at 8:00am. Drop off after the trip: Cruise trip finishes around 11:30-12:00 and you will reach Hanoi between 2:30pm-3:00pm. Our bus can only drop off in Hanoi Old Quarter. If you wish to book a flight after the cruise trip please book one after 5:30pm to avoid rushing between places. OR you can fly from Hai Phong which is closer to Halong Bay. We do not offer direct bus to the airport but our van can continue to the airport after dropping off guests in downtown Hanoi. The surcharge for this trip to airport is $10/person and you will reach the airport at 4:00pm. 2. If you do not book transfer with us, please see the port/pier details and take note of contact person who will meet and greet you at the pier. If you reach Hanoi airport at 7:30am without flight delay, you can still make it for the same day cruise. However we can only private transfer for route Airport - Halong which is $120. Please kindly be advised that Orchid cruise departs from Got ferry in Hai Phong while Seaplane departs from Tuan Chau Marina so they are far from each other around 1-hour drive. If you want to take Seaplane you should choose the cruise which departs from Tuan Chau, so after cruise tour, the staff from the Seaplane office will drive an electric car to the cruise port to pick you up (subject to availability). If you still want to take the Orchid cruise then you need to book a private car to Tuan Chau marina to take Hai Au tour. Furthermore, there is only one time-frame for the shuttle bus to back to Hanoi which is at 11:30 AM. Therefore, if you do a Scenic tour by seaplane, you need to arrange the transfer back to Hanoi by yourself or we can arrange a private car for you. Dear Ed, Thank you for your inquiry! Since your children are still small, you can take one room to save cost. The room is 36m2 so it is big enough for your family. One child can share bed with parent and the 2 year old child can get a free baby cot. If you still want to add an extra mattress for the 4 years old child, it is still ok but with higher fee. Both cruises depart from Tuan Chau Pier and visit Halong Bay. Dear Ms. Elisa, Thank you for your questions. Yes, all meals are included in the price, however, please note that drink is excluded. You will order and pay for it on the boat. Besides, please note that Orchid Cruise is in Hai Phong and it takes 2,5 hours transfer only. Actually, nowadays, it takes around 2,5 hours to transfer to Halong only as well since the new highway has been launched and almost all of the cruises start going this way instead. The check-in time is 11:30 AM and normally it takes around 2,5 hours transfer from Hanoi to the pier thus I am sorry that if you arrive at 9:20 AM, it is quite late actually. Can you please kindly consider to stay one night in Hanoi and then take the cruise the following day? Dear Kim Hamann, Thank you for your question! Please note that our shuttle bus will take the clients to Halong bay from Hanoi at 8.30 - 9.00 am and come back here at around 2.30 pm the following day. Since you will arrive in Hanoi at 10.45 am on July 18, I am sorry that you cannot make it for the trip on the day. You can consider staying in Hanoi for 1 night and then take the trip on July 19-20. However, please note that Orchid Cruise starts from GOT Pier, Hai Phong and if you are staying in Halong, it will be around 1-hour driving. Hi, I am very interested in your cruise but need to know a few more details. My husband and I and 18 month old daughter will be travelling. Is your cruise suitable for a toddler or will it be frustrating for the other guests? Do you provide a cot and high chair? Is the transfers to a from the islands flexible- i.e. if she needs to have a nap can we head back to the boat early? or leave for an excursion later if she is still napping? We did arrange Orchid Cruise for other families with young children before and 95% of the feedback have been excellent thus I believe it would be no problem. The cruise can surely arrange the cot and high chair in the restaurant for your baby. I would recommend you to take 2 days 1 night trip only since for 3 days 2 nights trip, on the second day you will transfer to a day boat for activities and it is not suitable for children. For 2 days 1 night trip, you can consider to take the activities or stay in your cabin for rest. However, the itinerary of Orchid Cruise is mainly for relaxing thus I hope it is not a big matter for your family. The dinner is at around 7:30 PM. However, if you need to prepare the meals for her earlier, you can ask the restaurant and please inform them soon for the best assistance. For the life jacket, I am sorry that there is only one size for children. You can bring her own life jacket along if needed. The stairs are safe, no worries. The transfer time between Hanoi - Orchid Cruise is around 2,5 hour and you will have a break on the way. I am sorry that the shuttle service is for hotels in Hanoi Old Quarter only. We arrive at the Hanoi airport at 7:50am on 21 May 2018, and are hoping to be able to book the 2 day 1 night cruise for that day (May 21-22). Would it be possible to book a private car from the airport in Hanoi to the cruise port (my research shows that the one way fare in a private car is about $70-$75 each way), and then we will just take the shuttle service back to Hanoi on the 22nd (for $20)? There wasn't an option to book that way on the website, Please advise, and thanks in advance.

We can surely arrange the private transfer to pick you up from the airport straight to the cruise (total transfer cost for this option is $140 round trip including express way toll fee). However as you arrive early, I suggest we just picks up from the airport and bring you to Hanoi Old Quarter. You can leave your luggage at your hotel or our office, then have breakfast/coffee break until being picked up at 9:30am by the limousine bus service. This way it will cost you $95 in total for transfer and at a much more comfortable arrangement. I hope this information is helpful and please let me know if you have any other questions! Thank you for your question and I am glad to know that you are visiting Halong Bay this November. Orchid cruise shuttle bus cost $40/person/ round trip and it's a very good limousine service. However the bus only drops off in Hanoi Old Quarter around 2:00pm. In case you wish to go directly to the airport, the cost for private transfer round trip is $150. If you are not rushed for time, it's best to return to Hanoi to collect your luggage and then take a taxi to the airport. This will save you extra budget on transfer fee. Dear So-Jeong Kim, Thank you for your email and our cost for one way transfer from Haiphong airport to Orchid cruise is US $ 29 per one way by private 4 seat car for 2 persons. I am so sorry as our cost at US $ 20 per car is our old cost and transfer cost has risen recently. I highly recommend you to book the flight depart at 08.30AM just in case of the flight delay. It is around 30 minutes transfer from Haiphong airport to Orchid cruise. The cruise will leave the pier at around noon time 11.30 - 12.00 as latest time. At the moment, we still have 01 Suite balcony cabin available on your trip date- 18June for 2days 1night with the cost at US $ 360 for 2 persons travelling. Dear Cho Minsuk, Thank you for your question. May I know which airport you are arriving to? If it is Hai Phong Airport, we can pick you up from the airport and the fee is only $29/car and it's about 10km away from the pier. If you are arriving at Hanoi Airport, the cost will be higher and the ride takes about 3 hours. I hope to hear from you soon!

Hello, How long is the drive from Hanoi to Halong Bay? On other sites they say it is a four-hour journey each way but some of the answers for your tour appear to say this is only 2.5 hours. We will be staying in a hotel in the historic French Quarter. Also, the transport is noted as a limousine. Is this a luxury mini-van? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Dear Ms. Jaeyeon Lee, Thank you for your question. A private MPV will be more private, but the shuttle bus seat is also very comfortable as it's luxury limousine. If you prefer privacy I suggest you go with a private car. If you don't mind the bus going around picking up a few other passengers, the bus is very comfortable as well. Time-wise both are the same.

As Orchid bus is luxury limousine the price is quite higher than other shuttle bus service ($40/person/round trip) but you will surely enjoy the extra luxury. The bus can pick up and drop off from Hanoi Old Quarter area. You will be back to Hanoi around 2:00-2:30pm as it takes only 2.5 hours (or faster) for the transfer each way.

The price as you see does not include pick up and drop off, and our shuttle bus only do pick up and drop off within Hanoi Center/ Hanoi Old Quarter area. The cost is $40/person/round trip by luxury minivan. There is overnight parking available at the pier in case you wish to drive yourself, we will send you an instruction map in such case. Dear Deepak, Thank you so much for your contacting us and please kindly find my comments below: - Actually we offer free of charge for kid under 5 years old, however this policy only offer for 1 kid per 2 adults thus if you are travelling with 2 kids, the second kid will need to pay 50% of an adult cost. By the way, as your travelling with 2 little kids thus I highly recommend you to spend 2 days 1night cruise option instead of 3days 2nights as they are too small to join the second day. As on the second day, you will need to move to another boat (small boat) for cruise further and only return to the big boat in the late afternoon. Thanks for your kind notice and understanding! - About the transfer, our shuttle bus can only do pick up and drop off within Hanoi Center/ Hanoi Old Quarter thus our bus can not drop you off at Cat Bi airport. Dear Ms. Jennifer, Thank you for your question It is correct that July is in monsoon season and there are chances that the trip can get cancelled due to bad weather. However, as per our experience July is still a good month to visit Halong Bay (bright and sunny for great activities), and the chance is very slim. Re your flight, you surely have enough time to take flight as it is only 2 hours driving from Hai Phong to Hanoi and you would arrive back hotel at 2pm then you can take a taxi to the airport for your flight. As for what we liked this cruise: Our tour was led by Tien. He did an excellent job in picking us up and accompanying with at all times as well as seeing us back to Hanoi. He made sure we stayed informed about the trip. The trip plan was accurate in detail food & beverages menu clear and delicious for all the service was second to none. Facilities are as pictured made me relax so well. Tein encouraged us to join in all to not miss anything interesting so it was so much fun than we expected.

Very nice, polite and professional. Room is large, fully equipped. It is worth the money we spent, unfortunately we can only stay 1 night. The leader guide is helpful with a good sense of humor. Well organized. Definitely the food is the best. We will recommend the cruise to everyone at any price.

The boat was clean and furnished so well. Also, I could see the bay while taking a bath in the tub. We enjoyed it very much.
If possible, replace it with a more comfortable bed.

Dinner has very little food on it. Tai Chi time was early and fast. Got up early to start excursions.

Very good
Only a small number of rooms so it's much more peaceful. It's an important point with other ships. All have private bathrooms and balconies, view is spectacular. The crew is helpful.
The cost of drinks is an extra. Didn't like a visit to the island by tender boat, they didn't let us know the price, when paying it is 3 times more. Happy Hour felt like a bit of a rip off.
