Vietnam and Halong Bay Travel Update - 19 May 2022
As you are aware, Vietnam has officially opened on March 15th with many favorable policy regarding entry and required documents to submit upon arrival.
Visa requirements
At the moment, Vietnam offers visa exemption for 13 nationalities: Germany, France, UK, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italia, Finland, Norway, Belarus, Russia, Japan and South Korea.
Nationalities from these countries can travel to Vietnam for 15 days without a visa requirement.
Other nationalities are eligible for e-visa and estimated visa processing time is 3 business days: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/web/guest/khai-thi-thuc-dien-tu/cap-thi-thuc-dien-tu
Important update: If you are from a country with visa exemption, you can leave and return to renew your exemption without having to wait for 30 days
Covid-19 vaccine and test requirement
From 15th May, travelers are NO LONGER required to take a Covid Test.
You need to download PC-Covid19 app and scan QR code when required.
What about Halong Bay cruises? Are they all back?
As you may have already known, Covid-19 has left a heavy impact on tourism as a whole. Many cruise and hotels have experienced changes for the past 2 years. We try to keep our website as updated as possible so you can make the best choice for your cruise trip.
As of March 2022, not all cruises will have daily departure. Most cruises operate from Friday-Sunday with some exception such as Scarlet Pearl Cruise or Heritage Cruise, both of whom have more frequent schedule.
As of May 2022, most cruises have resumed for daily departure.
Any cruise offers 3 day 2 night trip?
Below is a list of cruises that offer 3 day 2 night trip:
- Scarlet Pearl (daily departure)
- Heritage Cruise (daily departure)
- Orchid Cruise (daily departure)
- Orchid Trendy Cruise (daily departure)
- Stellar of the Seas Cruise (daily departure but often fully booked thanks to high popularity)
- Peony Cruise (from 1st June)
- Mon Cheri Cruise (from 1st June)
- Capella Cruise (non-daily)
From October 2022, as tourism recovers, most cruises are planning on regular departure for 3 day trip again.

Halong Bay to offer free wifi in sightseeing points
Quang Ninh province is implementing its free wifi project that covers major caves and islands that receive tourists daily. Security camera will also be installed as part of the plan. Major sights such as Thien Cung, Dau Go and Titop Islands already have wifi installed while other anchoring areas such as Three Peaches Beach will soon have wifi covered.
